FILLINGS, ROOT CANALS, EXTRACTIONS, and other BASIC SERVICES are all provided here. If there are special circumstances, such as patient anxiety requiring sedation or a procedure of unusual complexity or difficulty, we are happy to arrange a referral to the appropriate specialist.
MAJOR WORK, such as CROWNS, BRIDGES, PARTIAL AND COMPLETE DENTURES, IMPLANTS, AESTHETIC DENTISTRY AND SMILE MAKEOVERS are also provided here. Dr. Pyke has taken advanced courses in the latest aesthetic dentistry bonding techniques for porcelain crowns and veneers. She has also received extensive training in comprehensive functional restorative dentistry and implant dentistry. This allows her to devise treatment plans that will not only give a beautiful aesthetic result, but can also improve the occlusion (bite) and function.
Cleanings and Preventive Care
(scaling, root planing, oral hygiene instruction, sealants, etc.)The regular removal of stain, plaque and tartar is absolutely essential to the long term health of teeth and gums. This service is provided by the dental hygienist.
Tooth Whitening/Bleaching
Both in-office power bleaching with the U.V. light and office supervised home bleaching products are available here. These are proven safe and effective methods of brightening your smile.
Micro abrasion
This can be used to remove blemishes on the surface of the teeth, provided they are not too deep.
Aesthetic contouring/Bonding
This technique can be used to alter the shape of worn or chipped teeth - providing the damage is not too great. Composite materials are used to mask defects and close spaces. The results are instant, but be prepared to replace these restorations more frequently. Better long-term alternatives involve veneers or crowns.
Inlays
When the cavity is large, an inlay is needed for strength. These restorations a fabricated by a dental lab and usually require a second appointment at the office for insertion.
Veneers
These are thin porcelain surfaces which are bonded over the front tooth surface. Only minimal tooth reduction is needed. Veneers can be used to correct ageing smile lines, close spaces and change the colour of teeth.
Crowns ("Cap")
These are used when a tooth is heavily filled or was previously treated with a root canal treatment. Crowns provide excellent strength to the tooth while improving overall aesthetics.
Bridges
Bridges are restorations designed to replace missing teeth. It involves reducing the size of the adjacent teeth which act as supports. There is a limit to the length which can be bridged and there needs to be a tooth support at each end for long term success.
Dentures
These can be full (whole arch or whole mouth) or partial ( replacing one or several teeth). All dentures are removable and have a tendency to move. To achieve stability, partial dentures need to be clasped to the natural teeth. Both partial and complete dentures can be made to appear quite natural using the latest artificial teeth and acrylics.
Implants
This type of tooth replacement involves the placing of a titanium root within the bone. This artificial root is allowed to integrate into the bone for 4-6 months before a crown or bridge is attached to it. During the healing phase, a temporary denture restores your smile. The success rate for implants can be as high as 95%.
Cosmetic Dentistry
This is a category of dentistry that concentrates on having your teeth look the best that they can be as well as lasting longer. It may include veneers, composite or ceramic inlays, crowns bridges and tooth coloured fillings.
Root Canal Treatment
There is often damage to the nerves and soft tissues inside your teeth requiring the need to have a root canal performed. Essentially this is the process of removing this soft tissue from inside the teeth to end pain, sensitivity or recurring infection.
Sports Guards
Sports Guards are a must for protecting teeth from having teeth damaged by sports activities. A custom fitted sports mouth guard reduces the number of sports injuries to the teeth. Dr. Pyke is also a PPM certified dentist. The PPM or Pure Power Mouthguard not only provides protection against concussion and tooth trauma when playing contact sports, but it also IMPROVES BALANCE AND STRENGTH by placing your jaw in its ideal alignment and releasing residual muscle tension. This is true for athletes involved in non-contact sports as well, such as golf, gymnastics, equestrian sports, body building, etc. It is designed to give serious athletes the edge they need to go from good to great in their chosen sport.
Children's Dentistry
Children are very important at the Carriage Place Dental Centre, and we strive to provide gentle, non-stressful dental care, again emphasizing preventive care. Growth and development of the teeth and jaws are monitored so that any orthodontic issues are managed in a timely manner.
Sealants
Sealants are an excellent way to reduce the incidence of cavities in a young persons mouth. A sealant is simply a very thin layer of material that is bonded to the biting surface of the back teeth creating a barrier that protects the teeth from getting cavities.
Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders and Bruxing (Teeth Grinding)
Dr. Pyke worked in a practice limited to the treatment of temporomandibular disorders for three years, so she has extensive experience in appliance therapy to manage this condition.
We work in conjunction with a variety of dental specialists, so if there is a situation where you would feel more comfortable seeing a specialist, or if we feel you would be better served by a referral, we are happy to provide that option for you.
